Cesar Malpica, Electronics Technician

What was your biggest challenge when you joined Comet X-ray?

"The biggest challenge was the backlog of portable X-ray tubes needing repair when I arrived. Customers were eager to receive their orders, and I was determined to meet their expectations. At that time, I was still learning the equipment, so keeping up was a challenge, but it pushed me to adapt quickly and improve my skills."

How did you handle the challenges, and what steps did you take to turn things around?

"I was the tackling the challenges with portables, and I had a steep learning curve. Traveling to Copenhagen for training with Alan Poulsen and Henrik Nielsen was a turning point. Their support, along with the education I received, gave me the tools I needed to push through. When I returned, I applied everything I learned, which significantly reduced the backlog. I gained a deeper understanding of the equipment’s behavior and could repair the tubes faster and more efficiently, getting them back to customers with minimal delays."

How did the company support you through this process?

"Comet X-ray was incredibly welcoming. The resources I needed were readily available, and when I reached out to Copenhagen for help, they went above and beyond, providing thorough troubleshooting advice and genuinely caring about my challenges. The camaraderie in our Shelton team was also a big factor; we have a positive, supportive environment that made those difficult times easier to navigate."

It sounds like a strong support network was key. How do you think your efforts impacted our customers?

"My work has a direct impact on our customers. If I can’t get their equipment up and running, they can’t do their jobs, which costs them money and affects our business relationship. By resolving the backlog and ensuring equipment is repaired efficiently, I help minimize disruptions and keep them happy. Strong customer relationships are essential, and I always strive to maintain that trust."

What motivates you to check in every day and keep pushing forward?

"I genuinely love working on electronics. I've had a passion for it since I was a kid. The Navy honed that passion, and I’ve kept growing my knowledge. Troubleshooting can be frustrating, but the challenge and satisfaction of finding solutions keep me excited to come to work every day."

What excites you most about the future of X-ray technology and its potential impact?

"I'm excited to see how our X-ray technology evolves. Our advancements, like transitioning from older, clunky portables to lightweight ECO systems, are incredible. I'm curious about what’s next for our controllers and where our technology will go. I’m also eager to see which new industries we could enter and witness our products' real-world impact."
Your passion and dedication have made a big difference.

Thank you for sharing your story, Cesar.

As industrial components continue to reduce in size, X-ray inspection is crucial for detecting microscopic defects across a range of applications, from materials science to electronics failure analysis to biological samples. At the same time, obtaining high-quality data as quickly as possible so users can spend more time analyzing their data and producing actionable insights is also critical. This calls for high-power X-ray output and a stable, high-resolution beam. The FXE-160 Nano CT can rapidly examine sub-micron defects across a wide range of lab applications by leveraging external cooling and higher resolution.
