Spotlight on Shelton - interview with Jorge Lemus

April 02, 2025

Meet Jorge, the logistics team leader at Comet X-ray Shelton. He focuses on efficiency and teamwork to keep the service department running smoothly. From managing inventory to supporting his colleagues with repairs, Jorge helps ensure reliable service for customers and colleagues.

We’re on the right path, and with the great people we have here, I think the future looks bright."

Jorge Lemus, logistics team leader.

Jorge, tell us a little about your time with Comet X-ray.

"I'm a logistics team leader, responsible for all the shipping and receiving repairs and new equipment, and I'm also responsible for the inventory that we have in-house.

I've been with Comet for seven years, focusing on efficiency and quality service. When I started, there was a major repair backlog. I worked to streamline processes, reduce turnaround times, and build a strong team. Today, I'm proud to be part of a service department that's fast, reliable, and committed to helping our customers keep their equipment running smoothly."

Can you describe your experience with repairs at Comet and how your role has evolved over the years?

"When I first joined Comet, I focused on repairing older stationary equipment, along with generators, tubes and coolers. Over time, much of this equipment has become obsolete, and we've shifted to the iVario models, which are simpler to work with since they're based on electrical boards.

While transitioning to a logistics role, I continue to work closely with our service department, ensuring smooth, effective repairs and helping our team members grow their expertise."

What is your current focus, and how does it impact customer service at Comet?

"I focus on maintaining and managing our inventory to ensure accuracy and availability. This is crucial for reducing lead times on customer requests; when we receive new products or components from Denmark or Switzerland, we log them in the system within two hours, so they're ready to ship out the same day.

When I rejoined Comet, there was a backlog of repairs and misplaced components, like EVO controllers. Carlos and I have since brought more structure to inventory management, minimizing delays and improving efficiency. Although minor errors occasionally happen, we've yet to lose parts and constantly refine our processes to better serve our customers with quick and reliable service."

How do you see your role evolving to better support the team and our customers?

"One recent challenge has been preparing to take on a broader role as a team leader. I enjoy helping the team and am eager to gain hands-on experience with portable equipment, as I believe learning by doing is critical.

As a unit, the team works closely with Denmark and Switzerland to coordinate shipments and deliver fast turnarounds for customers. Meeting month-end deadlines is a top priority, and the team stays committed until every order is packed and sent. A shared dedication to quality and reliability drives the team to complete every project."

What are you most excited about?

"I'm committed to making the Comet X-ray team in Shelton a place where everyone feels supported and works together as a close-knit team. Building a strong, united group is important, and I hope we continue the traditions that make Shelton a great workplace."

Thanks Jorge, for your time.

Overcycling at max power – here’s how BLOX helps protect non-cycling tubes

September 30, 2025

The HP11 is one of the most widely used tubes in the field. Despite its popularity, it has notable limitations. By default the HP11 is a non-cycling tube, but with the right setup it can be operated in cycling mode. That means operators must respect a clear trade-off between maximum power and the allowable number of exposure cycles. Too often, we see systems running at full power while cycling far beyond safe limits. The result? Accelerated wear, premature failures, and higher costs.
